I received both my undergraduate and graduate degrees at Bastyr University and the Leadership Institute of Seattle (LIOS). My undergraduate degree in Applied Behavioral Science combines many disciplines including psychology, sociology and cultural anthropology.I hold a Master of Arts in Applied Behavioral Science with an emphasis on Family Systems Counseling. My education integrates leadership skills with a solid understanding of the self as a therapist.
My Therapeutic Approach
I work from a variety of therapeutic models that affirm the strengths of the client and of the client’s family system while motivating the client to see their issue in a new and different way. The specific choice of approach depends upon the issues to be resolved and the needs of the client.
My focus is to assist the client in developing new skills while acknowledging existing strengths, resources and past solutions. I work in a way that asks clients to look into their habits, patterns, choices and desires. This practice takes shape through our therapeutic relationship. With careful listening, language patterns, dreams, behaviors, ideas and goals will surface and become the roadmap that guides the work. Most of all I believe in the healing power of relationship.Working together we can create the change you desire.
My diverse background and life experiences have helped make me an adept and empathetic therapist. My life path has included a variety of roles that have enriched my work, including that of daughter, mother, ex-wife, wife, stepmother and now grandmother. The wisdom I have gained in these roles have enhanced my ability to “get it” when presented with an issue and to respond not only as a trained therapist but as a fellow human being.
I live on Vashon Island with my husband and dogs. I strive to live a life that balances family, friends, work and play. I encourage my clients to do the same.
